Public Transportation

Curacao public transportation consists of large yellow or blue buses for longer routes and smaller “cars” or “vans” for more in town routes. The smaller in town vehicles are identifiable by the word BUS on their license plates. Flagging down the in town cars /vans is simply a matter of spotting one and waving it down.

The larger buses, used for longer, island wide routes, depart from Punda and Otrobanda and can take you to a number of attractions around the island including beaches, parks and more. In Punda the bus terminal is outside the post office at the “Waaigat” and in Otrobanda it is next to the underpass.

Taxi Service

Taxis on Curacao are plentiful and easily identified. Non licensed taxis should be avoided. Genuine taxis have a TX on the license plate, the drivers wear a badge, there is a driver ID on the dash and each cab has a taxi meter with fixed rates. Taxi stands are easy to come by and can be found at hotels and the airport as well as other spots around town.

Aside from the standard taxi service, sightseeing and shopping tours may be arranged and the drivers often prove to be valuable and informative guides lending a bit of local color to your drive.

Be sure to pick up a “Tariff Guide” at the airport or your hotel. Keep in mind that the posted rates are for four people. Additional passengers will incur additional charges.

Also, rates go up by 25% between the hours of 11 PM and 6 AM.
